Today I am looking at a new game available for both Android and iOS devices – Totem Rush.
Totem Rush is an interesting mix of match 3 and strategy. I do not remember playing any other game similar to this, thus I found Totem Rush overall to be fun and a nice change.
When the game first starts, you will given a brief tutorial on what to do. Most players should be familiar with match 3 games. Here you will be matching color totems. In the various levels you encounter, you will need to kill off pirates, destroy fences, free prisoners, all by matching colored totems next to these objects.
The game is broken up into two main sections: Multiplayer and Journey.
In the Journey section, you will progress through a number of levels. Each level will have different objectives for you to accomplish. You can earn up to three stars for each level and compare your scores to others online via Facebook.
In the Multiplayer section, you will take your hero(s) and attack others players online. (Because of this, you will need a constant Internet connection to play the game. )
Now that you have a basic understanding of the two components of the game, let me explain the Town.
Your Town is the central point of the game. Each player will have a town they will need to build up. To build up a town, you will need resources to purchase and upgrades buildings such as houses, a town hall, food storage, gold storage, defenses, etc. To get these resources, you will need to complete levels in the Journey section and attack others players via the Multiplayer section. All of these is done via match 3 games.
As you build your town, you will need to remember that other players will be able to come attack you, so you how you position your buildings and what upgrades you do, will be important. This is the strategy aspect of the game. When you are not getting resources your time will be spent re-organizing your town, setting up defenses, upgrading buildings, etc.
This is a free game but there are in app purchases you can use to speed up buildings, get a shield to protect yourself from other players, purchase resources.
I like this game and appreciate the somewhat different approach the developer takes to the standard match 3 game. There is plenty to do in the game and definitely is one that you can play a little every day. I can recommend Totem Rush to those who enjoy match 3 games , multiplayer, and strategy games. For a better “picture” check out the trailer. I have just started my Town, but I am curious to see how big I can get.
