Review:

If you enjoy adventure stories and RPG games then the Gamebook Adventures from Tin Man Games might be for you. In each book you get to choose how the adventure unfolds. Every section of the narrative concludes with a set of choices that you have to make. Depending on what you decide will effect how the story continues. My kids love reading this type of book so when I found these apps, I decided to contact the developer to learn more about them.

No matter which adventure you play, each are setup the same. When you start the game, on the Main menu screen you will see links for:

  • Maps:  A pinch to zoom map of Orlandes-Drymar-Rema & Surrounds
  • Orlandes Uncovered: A detail background of the story, lands, etc
  • Achievements:  Various in game acheivements you can earn
  • Rules:  Game Rules such as all details needed on how to play, fighting, healing etc
  • Options:  Have the ability turn on Cheat mode and change font size
  • More Books:  Links to the other adventures available
  • Read Gamebook: Where to read/play the game

Now when you begin a game, there are a number of things you can setup. You can set the skill level: Classic, Bookworm, and Novice. Also you will be able to name your character. Now your character has two main stats, vitality, which is how much life you have, and fitness, which is used to determine how well you can perform certain physical feats. Also you will have a backpack which opens your inventory sheet. The inventory sheet keeps track of everything you have picked up, as well as everything you have discovered along the way.

When you begin the adventure and occasionally you will need to roll the dice. The gamebook has 3D physics based dice that roll with a push of a button.

Overall the background music, the font, colors, and images really work well together and totally pull you into the story. Should you read the background before you start? Should you read the adventures in a particular order? Hard to say. I read some of the background but really wanted to get into the story fast. I am doing the books in order. The game will allow you to bookmark so you can easily return to where you left off.

Well I am going to stop here. Why? Well I have given you a good intro into the game and what it is about. Now you have to try it. Once you try it you will get a much better understanding of the game. The game is available for both Android and iOS. There is a lite version of the books on iOS for free if you want to try them.

Also on their website, they have a very nice Quick Start Guide  which I would recommend reading if you want more information.

So if you like reading, RPG, and choose your own adventures, then give Gamebook Adventures from Tin Man Games a try.
