City Island is a game which brings back the best memories of the older Sim City style games. The object of the game is to create a booming metropolis where your citizens are as happy as can be. City Island makes you the brains behind all the planning and maintaining of your city.
You’ll begin your journey on an Island (did you guess that?) with a small sea port. The tutorial at the beginning will help get you ready for some serious empire building. It will show you how to build homes and business and also how to make your island more attractive for potential citizens. A beautiful island is the key to having more citizens come to you.
With over 85 different building types you’ll never find a dull moment in the game. As you progress and level up in the game you’ll unlock different types of buildings which will add to your island’s unique look and feel. I found that every time I played it was a little different which is great. Maintaining your city, keeping it nice and profitable, is the job of your commercial buildings such an animal farm. On occasion you’ll even find some pirate booty (treasure) lying around!
The graphics in City Island are amazing. I have played the game on a Nexus 4 and an older Galaxy S and found that with both devices the game play was as smooth as butter and graphics were very high quality. If at any time you feel stuck on the process of maintaining your city, the city adviser would be there to help you get back on your feet. The overall menu layout works well and it is very easy to move about your city.
The game is free but you can purchase more in game currency which can be used to help speed up the process. You can also share your handy work with folks on Twitter and Facebook. If you ever get super frustrated you can simply start your game all over.
I normally say Android games are good for the moments when you have some extra time, however City Island is the kind of game you make time for….yes its that good. So are you ready to build a successful island city?
