You have a brand new Android device. Maybe it is a Samsung S3 or Galaxy Note 2 (my personal favorite). Now it is time to get some apps; you have to promise me that you will get some apps. I have met a lot of folks who have a shiny new smart phones but when I ask them about what apps they saw, “I have not had time yet” or “how do you do that?”
The first place to start is in the marketplace. There are a number of them out there, such as Google Play, Amazon Apps, AppBrain, and Samsung. For these you can browse on your device or download the appropriate app and search on your Android device. With these app markets, you can read about the app, see screenshots, read customer reviews, and of course download it.
Another way to find the best Android apps is through app review websites, such as this fine site App Review Central (ARC). There are a huge number of app review sites on the web today so finding one should not be hard. App Review Central has started a new app review site directory where you can find some of the site ARC enjoys and recommends.
A good app review site should provide the following:
- custom and unique reviews which give you specifics on the app
- screenshots, videos
- links to the market
- rating system
- information on new apps
One of the best ways to find out about apps is via word of mouth. Talk to your friends and family about the apps they use and why. Sometimes seeing the app in action on a friend’s device is even better than reading about it. Now there are a lot of free apps out there so you can “try” them before shelling out any money but having someone there to explain the app could be invaluable.
Hopefully this post will give you some ideas and guidance on where and how to find apps to go on your new Android device. No matter which you choose, do not let your new smartphone go to waste. Start downloading!
