UpTo Reinvents the Calendar with Version 2.0

Backed by New Capital, Detroit-based UpTo Defines the Modern Calendar, Giving Users an All-  Encompassing View of What’s Coming Up Reflecting How People Really Live

DETROIT – Nearly every aspect of modern communication has evolved dramatically over the past two decades, with one exception: the calendar. The calendar has remained stuck in the dark ages, despite recent attempts to evolve the conventional appointment-based system into its modern counterpart.

Now, UpTo has reinvented the calendar and changing the way people look forward in time with the launch of UpTo 2.0, giving users a window into the future that more accurately reflects the way people really live.

Unlike other mobile calendar applications that have made lateral updates to the same antiquated, work-focused calendar, the new UpTo transforms how users see what’s coming up with a social layer that connects them with the people and organizations they care about to deliver an engaging and more complete calendar experience—the way it should be.

“Our lives are increasingly social and dynamic, but calendar apps have remained singular and limited, offering little more than a list of upcoming meetings and appointments.” said Greg Schwartz, co-founder and CEO of UpTo. “UpTo is based in Detroit, the city that brought us the automobile and revolutionized the transportation industry. While our competition on the coast has been focusing on faster horses, in true Detroit fashion, we’re going a step further. We’re revolutionizing the calendar with a modern approach that can actually keep pace with modern life.”

At the heart of the UpTo calendar is a network that transforms the way calendar sharing works and gives users access to relevant streams of events all in one place. Where traditional calendars limit users to all-or-nothing sharing, UpTo’s network enables users to privately connect with friends, family and coworkers to share what they want, with whom they want, and have conversations directly within events. Additionally, UpTo has more than 5,000 public streams of upcoming events that users can follow based on their likes and interests. Users can add streams to their UpTo calendar to stay informed about their favorite teams, local events, TV premieres and even the goings-on at their children’s’ school or soccer club.

“UpTo is a quantum leap in the way we see the future,” said Josh Linkner, CEO and managing partner of Detroit Venture Partners, UpTo’s lead investor. “In the same way Facebook changed the way we record memories and past activities, UpTo is reshaping the way companies and individuals plan for, share and interact with the future-tense.”

UpTo syncs seamlessly with native calendar applications and supports all major calendar platforms such as Google Calendar and Outlook so there’s no need to rebuild an existing schedule. Users can swipe-to-hide events to curate their feed, leaving only those that are relevant in their UpTo calendar. A dynamic heat map shows how busy each day of the month is, making planning a snap.

UpTo also offers a web-based platform—the UpTo Stream Engine—that allows any business or organization in the world to publish their calendar on UpTo in seconds and simultaneously embed a modern calendar experience into their website. Numerous organizations already publish event streams on UpTo—from local businesses, youth sports teams and schools to the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers, Ticketmaster, Horseshoe Casino, the State of Michigan and many more.

Fueling the expansion of its calendar platform, UpTo has secured an additional $500,000 in new funding from Venture Investors, with offices in Ann Arbor, MI and Madison, WI, which joined the recent $1.5 million investment led by Detroit Venture Partners and Ludlow Ventures. Jim Adox, managing director at Venture Investors, has joined the UpTo Board.

“This latest $2 million round will enable us to continue expanding the UpTo Stream platform, build new business partnerships and add key executives to support our mission of modernizing the calendar for consumers and businesses,” Schwartz said.

Editor’s notes: I have tried this calendar and it is really neat. You can easily add other’s calendars and share these with your family and friends. There are tons of premade calendars you can easily connect with, like sports teams.  You can also share you business calendar online with others.  I am a big calendar person and the idea behind UpTo is cool, so if you like to keep on top of things, download the free app and see what it can do.
