This strategy game engages you in a World War III conflict between the Americans and the Russians.
Strategy and Tactics: USSR and USA is a strategy game that puts you in the middle of a post-World War II, Cold War conflict between well-known global rivals and superpowers, the USA and the USSR. Here’s a brief summary of the game’s backstory: A nuclear bomb that dropped on Beijing on March 8, 1948 essentially prompted the USSR to declare war on the USA and its allies. As either country, it is your mission to prevent the other country from world domination by conquering provinces and decimating the opposing country’s military forces. Each victory will earn you points that go toward your virtual military rank. Should you become a dedicated player, you will rise from a private to a sergeant major in no time.
This game has three game modes including campaign mode, scenario mode and multiplayer combat. The campaign mode allows you to rewrite history by leading the Americans and/or the Russians through World War III by overcoming 17 thought-provoking missions. The USA campaign, entitled “Better Dead Than Red”, begins on August 14, 1948 and the USSR campaign, entitled “World War III”, began nearly four months earlier on April 2 during the same year.
The Scenario mode places you in various scrimmage situations where you are given a list of circumstances in order to count your efforts as a victory, which consists of a main objective, an additional objective, defeat conditions and award qualifications. The multiplayer mode provides players with options of playing against the computer, against another player with the two-player “hotseat” (pass-and-play) mode and against an online player, with password protection if needed. Because of the wide selection of game modes, you can enjoy this game without having to rely on a decent Internet connection.
This add-on version of Strategy and Tactics: World War II is designed for not only expert strategic gamers, but also for war history enthusiasts. This game is similar to Risk or a tabletop strategy RPG with its turn-based gameplay and virtual movable game pieces. This is a game that doesn’t rely heavily on colorful, animated graphics for it to be an entertaining game to play, and does not need to.
The game’s emphasis on stratagem, tactics and precise planning will be enough to gauge your interest. However, even you are a specialist at strategy games, you will still need to view the 18-step tutorial before jumping right into the game. Otherwise, you WILL be lost because of how strategically demanding this game is. If you need further help while playing, the tutorial and help section are at your disposal and can be accessed at anytime in the campaign mode menu and settings menu, respectively. The settings menu also includes “synchronizing saves” that allows users with a HeroCraft account to link it with the game to track their progress.
As I have mentioned before, this game is designed for advanced strategy gamers and will definitely keep you on your toes. Strategy and Tactics: USSR and USA is available to download in the Google Play store for $2.99. However, this game is not compatible for all Android devices.
