I grew up watching Kirk, Spock, and the entire crew of the Enterprise going boldly where no man has gone before every Saturday night, so I am definitely a fan. When I recently saw the game Star Trek Trexels from Yes Gnome hit the market, I had to give it a try. I am glad I did. Star Trek Trexels is an adventure game where you take control of your own starship and help the Federation figure out what happened to the USS Valiant. The game starts off with Sulu (George Takei) narrating the game and there is lots of original Star Trek sounds and music. The game is broken up into a number of different sections. First there is the ship. As you progress through the game you will need to build up your crew by creating new rooms on board such as crew quarters, engineering, fusion reactor, carbo bays, energy converters, and more. To do this (and pretty much anything else) you will need command, research, power, and of course dilithium! You will earn these in the missions you complete which is another section of the game. Power and dilithium can also be purchase for real cash.

Missions are divided into two categories: exploration and assignments. In the exploration section, you will need to send probes to different planets to explore. After you have explored the planet, you will have away missions on these planets. Complete these away missions to earn the components to advance.

The assignment section provide you will a list things you need to complete such as build a holodeck, build 2 deuterium tanks, etc. These will give you experience to allow you to level up. As level up, you will be given new assignments.  From my experience, it is best to alternate between missions and assignments to advance faster.

I would not consider this a fast game. If you are open to making in-app purchases, it would speed things up a bit. I found there is a lot to do in the game and overall I enjoyed my time playing. It took me a little while to figure everything out but once I did the game was a lot more fun. This is a game for those that like doing a variety of different tasks and that enjoy building over time. Some of the game play reminds me of the Tiny Death Star, but I like this one much more.

Finally the graphics and layout are very Star Trek and it looks really cool on my iPad. So if you are a Trekkie and have a few bucks to spend, beam over to iTunes and engage this app. LOL
