Today I am taking a break from the many turn based strategy or city management games to take a look a card game: Fresh Deck Poker. Fresh Deck Poker is available for both Android and iOS. On Google Play, the app has over 26K five star ratings. The game allows you to play on your Android phone, tablet or Facebook.
With any poker game, the key to the game is your opponent and how they play. Well this is a social game; you are playing others from all over the world. This is a free game so you do not need to worry about losing your shirt!
For those professionals out there, here is an important technical point from the developer: “Fresh Deck Poker carries the same framework as real money poker sites including being the only free poker game to have its random number generator certified by a 3rd party – as all real money poker sites have to.”
Enough of the technical stuff,now to the game.
You can start the game off as a guest player, but you will probably want to make an account so you can invite friends and create an online profile. The game layout is pretty straight forward. The top of the screen shows your level and money, while along the bottom you have links to your profile and players where you can get chips in a variety of ways. The main section of the screen gives you four options: Play poker, play with friends, get free chips, and finally a place to customize your avatar and links to other games.
I enjoyed the overall theme of the game. I found it fun and inviting. I like how you can really customize your avatar. Now if you are new to poker, the game might seem a bit confusing but if you go into the help section it shows you the different types of poker hands, the game screen layout, and the rules of poker. I would definitely go there first if you are new.
The game starts you off with a very nice amount of chips so you can have some fun without worrying about having to purchase (with real money) chips. In addition to winning hands to get chips, there are a good number of different ways you can get chips, which is definitely appreciated. You can of course help support the developer buy purchasing chips.
I am a bit rusty at poker but this app, Fresh Deck Poker is a fun, nicely done poker game that is appropriate for all players. Cross platform, playing friends, neat avatars, and lots of ways to get chips make it an app poker players should try.
