Slitherine has recently put out another quality turn-based strategy game, this time based on the World to End all Wars- World War I.

If you are familiar with Sliterine’s other titles or turn-based strategy games, then you should not have much trouble picking up the game.  The game comes with single and multi-player game options.  There are 5 campaigns from 1914-1918. You can select your alliance and the AI strength.

The game has tutorial/hint messages you can turn on/off plus a video briefing on each campaign.

The overall graphics are good and the game interface is pretty standard. I thought the text a bit small but there is a lot of information to cover. When playing, you will have the following key areas to work in:

  • Production – get more units
  • Research- use technology to create new units
  • Diplomacy -setup diplomatic relationships with other counties
  • Management – info screen on mission goals, etc.

You can of course upgrade, repair, or disband units and the app provides turn reports after each round.

This is a very detailed game, with lots of things to consider during your turn,  so if you are looking for a quick game this is not it.

If you decided to get this game or want another perspective, I definitely recommend you read, Field Marshal Owen’s Guide to Commander: The Great War (for Noobs) from Pocket Tactics.
