Attention artists- looking to join an active online community where you can share your work and interact with others? Then you need to give Spray Can for iOS a try.
Real quickly, Spray Can – sketch, draw, paint is a unique painting app, which combines art with social media. Users can browse through an online gallery in HD with more than 6.5 million pictures.
The app is available for both Android and iOS. I will be looking at the iOS version of the app today.
After playing around with this app, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is or wants to be an artist and enjoys creating digital works of art. For the casual artist or kid looking to create some fun pictures, I am not sure this would be for them.
This is an online community, so to get the most out of the app, you will need to create a profile and connect. Using the app is very straight forward and you will not need much direction. The app will only work in portrait mode.
The app is broken down into the following sections:
- Home
- News- here you will get feeds from Spray Can or others that you follow online
- Paint-here is where you will create your art
- Messages-here you can message others online
- Settings-where you can create an account, setup notifications, login, and shop
On the top of the app there are 3 options which you can use to see what is out there: Feed, Explore (via tags) and Artists (based on most respected, newcomers, etc)
When you are ready, head over to the Paint section, create a tag for your work and let the creative juices flow. You start out with a brick wall background. Within the paint section, you can adjust the paint color, brush shape, size, opacity. A really neat feature is that you can create favorites, so when you setup a brush the way you like it, you can easily get it back. A nice time saver! After you can finished your work, you can upload/share it online.
The app is free but there is an online shop where you can purchase different types of colors, backgrounds, ability to create HD drawing, additional canvases to draw on, and more. Not being an artist or having used many other art type apps, I cannot comment on the reasonableness of the pricing. They have a huge community right now, so they must be doing something right.
As I mentioned earlier, this is a great app for artists. Artists want and need to share their work; Spray Can makes it easy to do that. It is very easy to paint on this app and from the work I saw online, there are some very talented artist out there. The app is free, as is the community, so why not share your digital work with other?
