Well the folks from Slitherine have come out with another awesome RTS; today is is Hell: Fight for Gilrand.
I was told there are 3 reasons why I should play this game:
- 2 story-driven campaigns but also a skirmish mode (with random maps and sets of units) and cooperative and versus multiplayer modes)
- Vast range of units available with unique abilities (Paladins, Gryphon Riders, War Priest, Hellbounds, Lord Demon…)
- You can play with the official forces from Hell, the Devil included
There is one other reason- it is a well designed and enjoyable turn based strategy game based on the PC game that was released last year.
So what is the story line? From the press release:
“The angelic and peaceful kingdom of Gilrand is in great danger. In the underworld, hordes of infernal creatures have managed to build dark magical gates able to bring them to the surface and launch a terrible invasion on this mythical land. Led by the Lord Devil in person, merciless demons are raiding the defenseless Human world. To repel such a despicable attack, humanity can only rely on an holy and mysterious order of fearless knights, priests, and wizards known as “The Order of Radiance”. An epic fight between these two fundamentally opposed factions is bound to begin!”
I am not going to go into all of the mechanics of the game- if you are familiar with turn based strategy games from Slitherine, you know what you are in for. Now this is not a cheap game but for this price you get a game that you will play for hours. You can play alone or online, campaign or skirmish, normal to Hell (difficulty settings) , and save multiple games at a time.
Specifically within the Skirmish game you can set: map size, map type, style, type of scenario, force size, starting location, and armies. Again a huge amount of options to keep you busy fighting the forces of Hell.
The graphics and gameplay are awesome. The only “issue” I found was that the text (even on my iPad mini) seemed a bit small.
So if you are ready to fight for the forces of good and destroy evil, head over to the app store and purchase Hell: Fight for Gilrand.
