The App:
I reviewed the Android version of the app for this post. When you first turn on the app, it will ask if you want to continue, assuming you are on 4G. (They recommend WiFi due to the large amount of images.) The first screen you see is the gallery of cartoons. Here you can easily scroll through to see them; simply tap an image to see the cartoon and its original image. You can also like and share the image.
The app has a nice sliding menu setup which will allow you to sort images by date popularity, or random. You can also filter images by a number of different conditions such as liked only. drawing style, exaggeration level, themes, and more. I recommend you spend a little time going through the gallery and see all the different type cartoons there are before setting up yours.
When you are ready, click on the New Order button on the top right. When you do, you will choose:
- style
- number of people in the photo
- turnaround time
- theme
- exaggeration level
If you have questions, the app does provide a lot of guidance along the way. Pricing is also very obvious so you will get sticker shock!
Once you have that set, it is time to get your photo. You can take a selfie, a regular photo, or use a stored image. After the image is set, the app will then show your final image, cartoon options you chose, the final price, and turnaround time.
Overall the app is easy to use and make ordering simple. I do appreciate how the app shows everything up front so there are no surprises when it comes to costs or options. Plus Photolamus stands behind their work and will work with you to get it done right.
