There are several ways to use a smartphone. Swiping the touchscreen is the obvious way. Tilting the smartphone in different directions also controls features. The tilt control feature is possible because of the accelerometer, which is a device that detects motion. The picture above is an accelerometer designed by the Archimedes Automated Assembly Planning Project at Sandia National Laboratory. There are several games that are designed with tilt-motion controls. Here are a few of them.

Teeter Pro

Teeter Pro features a board covered with holes. One of the holes is the target. Tilt the phone to move the ball to the destination. The challenging part is avoiding all the holes between the start point and the destination. It’s an alright game after getting use to the correlation between tilting and ball speed. Remember to tap the screen at the start of the game to put the ball in play.

Racing Fever

This is one of the best car racing games I’ve played. The first person camera perspective is well-designed. Tap the camera icon to change perspectives. The car is easily controlled by tilting the phone. Avoid traffic by changing lanes and race to the finish line. Acceleration and braking are mapped to the pedal icons on the bottom of the screen. Press the icons to increase and decrease speed.
