Shade Combo for iOS is a fun game and one that will keep you going for some time. The goal of the game is to clear the screen of the objects (ducks) by sliding similar colored ducks to create a second color; you keep going that until all are gone or time runs out.
The game comes with two modes:
Timed – free with the standard game where you race against the clock.
Relax – ($1.99 USD IAP). This modes removes the time limit and gives unlimited shuffles.
Now there are a few things you need to know about the game. You can only combine two ducks at a time and you will need to figure out which two are the best to combine, as the ducks will move fall down to fill in around where you are working. See the screenshot below to see how the game is laid out. It looks simple, but it will take you some time to find the appropriate colors to combine.
Overall, I enjoy these types of puzzle games because every game is different and I enjoy the challenge of trying to improve my score each time I play. The game is available for both iPhone and iPad but I enjoyed it better on the larger screen. The game also plays in portrait mode only.
Now the game comes with a number of extras you can earn or purchase with IAPs. So what can you get? You can get what is called Combo Points. As with many of these games, you will earn them in the game, in addition to being able to purchase them. With the Combo Points you can:
- Unlock different colors, (a total of 15)
- Unlock Power-Ups such as add time, combo freeze, shuffle
These extras can add some nice variety to the game. I usually like to challenge myself to see how far I can do without using extras or power ups; but that is just me.
Shade Combo is enjoyable and is definitely one for folks that enjoy puzzles. Needless to say if you are color blind you will probably have some trouble with this game. 🙂 The only thing I would like to see with the game is that the relax mode either be free or can be unlocked with Combo Points. Other than that I want to wish you good luck on this game that will keep you busy and frustrated- the clock is way too short! Also I would start from the bottom and work your way up.
