Are you a frequent traveler? Do you have a ton of frequent flyer points or drive a lot for business? The question is what do you do while you wait for a flight or if you are spending the night in a new city while traveling? Today’s review is covering the app PreParture, a new travel app from folks over at Preparture Inc.
PreParture is a free app available for both Android and iOS devices. See below for screenshots and download links. For this review, I used the Android version. As an FYI, the app is supported by a small ad on the bottom of the screen, but it really does not interfere with anything.
When you first start the app you will need to setup an account. You can create one with an email address or use Facebook or Google+. This is pretty much all you have to do, to get going. There is a setting section in the app, but only gives you some background material.
It goes without saying, you will need your GPS on and Wi-Fi or mobile data active to use the app.  🙂
The main screen has five departure means:
- Airplane
- Cruise
- Car
- Train
- Bus
After you choose your means of transportation, you will then put in your location, departure location and time, and then finally your interests. The app has a nice list of premade interests, listed alphabetically. You can chose up to five different ones.
After a short search, the app will come up with a list of the locations it found. You can then map those locations to see where they are in relation to where you are and where you are going. When you are ready, pick one and the app with map a route to it via Google Maps. Very simple, very quick, very convenient.
The idea behind this app is a neat one. PreParture is easy to use and can be helpful for travelers who are in a new location or have a limited amount of time and are looking for something to do. I do not travel as much these days as I used to but I could have used this app many times while in the airport waiting for a flight or when I had to spend the night in a new city for work. Â Definitely a recommended app for travelers.
