Probably one of my most favorite games for the iPad is Agricola from Playdek. The game is lots of fun and very well done. Agricola fans have been asking for an Android version but so far nothing. 🙁
Well Android and Windows users can now rejoice because Digidiced has just released their game Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small and it is great! If you like Agricola, then you will want to get this one now.
So what is the game about? From the press release:
“In Agricola: All Creatures Big & Small, the player is the owner of an old farmstead with a bit of land. However, a neighboring farmer happens to have a competitive streak — Whether competing against one another or the CPU, players must use their wits to strategically place buildings and acquire and manage both resources and livestock. Whoever has the most animals after eight rounds wins.”
This is a two player game that allows you to play against the AI, others locally, or online. Overall the game is well done. The graphics are appropriate, the game layout is easy to follow and use, there is a nice tutorial, and game play is smooth. I tested the game on my Android tablet – not sure how this would work on a small screen though.
In the game, your job is to build the best farm possible and this is done via breeding animals. In the main game Agricola, breeding is just one part of it, but since this is just a two player game, it has been streamlined.
There are eight rounds in the game and within each round there are 3 phases: worker placement, collecting, and breeding.
There are two locations in the game, your farm and then the market (not exactly sure what it is called). Within the market area, there are 16 squares here were you and your neighbor will collect animals, resources, or buildings to place on your farm. Each player has three workers which they place in turn on these squares. To succeed in the game, you need to watch what your neighbor is doing and collect or try and block the appropriate resources in the market area. Sound complicated? It really isn’t. There is a nice tutorial which will do a better job explaining things.
I got my butt kicked in my first game against the easy AI. Yes I learned from my mistakes and did better in the next one. 🙂
Again this game is great and Agricola fans will love it. Digidiced has done a great job and I look forward to seeing more digital board games from them.
Now the game does have one IAP, which is the “More Buildings Big and Small” which adds additional special buildings to the mix. That will be my next purchase!
I cannot say enough about this game. I have been wanting Agricola on my Android tablet for quite a while, (since I have that around more than my iPad). This game definitely fulfills my Agricola needs. Have not problem recommending this game.
