Children grow up so quickly. Most parents want to try and capture all of the wonderful things their children do and discover when they are young. I cannot wait to be a grandparent so I can enjoy see a young child grow and learn about the world around them.
Today I am looking at the app Baby Skills. This app is designed for parents with children ranging from new born to about five years old. The app allows parents to track and record developmental information about their childresn.
The app is free and available for both Android and iOS devices. For $0.99 USD you can remove the small ad from the app. I did not find the ad to be a major issue in the app.
To use the app, you will need to set up an account – you can use an email address or Facebook. A neat thing about this app is that it is connected to the Baby Skills website. You can enter all of your information via the app or on your computer at their website.
The app is laid out nicely and is very easy to use. There are four main tabs which are:
- Family – here is where you list of your kids, name, sex, birthday
- Skills – here is where you can keep track of each child’s progress in a number of areas
- Journal – create your own journal, recording images and notes about your child
- News – see where others have shared about your child online
The meat of the app is within the Skills section. Within this area, you can track the following options:
- Physical
- Personal
- Language
- Literacy
- World
- Numeracy
- Creativity
- Growth
Within each of these, you can track a variety of things your child does. The app provides numerous sub categories to fill out. For example under Physical there is “Moving and Handling”, and “Health and Self Care”. As you fill in information, you will be track and see how things have changed over time.
Overall this is a pretty interesting app. When my children were small, smartphones did not exist so I am not sure if I would have used this or not. The app does provide parents today a way to track and see how their child is developing in a way I could not do. Finally, the app allows the parents to help remember and capture key moments in their child’s early days.
